FAQ

Straight answers. Even to the awkward questions.

If you're careful about rent to own, good. This category has earned some scepticism, and people who work for their money tend to do their homework. Here's everything, including the questions other companies hope you won't ask, so you can compare us properly before you sign anything, with us or anyone else.

Section one

Who it's for, and the money

Who is this for?

People whose car genuinely earns their income. NDIS and community support workers, mobile service operators, consultants, sole traders and small business operators. We verify business use on every application, because this product is built for your work, not for general personal use.

How much deposit do I need?

Deposits are $1,000 for most of our cars and $1,500 for the brand new SUVs. That's the only upfront money, and you'll see your exact figure in your quote before you commit to anything.

What's actually in the weekly payment?

The car, comprehensive insurance, registration, CTP, scheduled servicing for the whole term, not just the first year, and 24/7 roadside assistance, all in one flat weekly amount. It's the same number every week so you can plan around your work. There's nothing extra to add on top.

Are there any hidden fees?

No. Every fee we charge is published in a fee table on our how it works page, and your quote shows the total cost of the whole agreement before you sign. If a fee isn't published, we can't charge it. That's the deal we hold ourselves to.

Does a bigger deposit lower my weekly payments?

Yes. Every extra dollar you put down up front comes off what you're paying week to week. Our calculator lets you slide the deposit up and down and watch the weekly number change, so you can find the mix that suits your budget.

What does it cost in total?

It depends on the car and the term, and we'll show you the full dollar figure before you sign, always, right next to the weekly price. Try the calculator to see your estimated total in seconds, and see our compare page for an honest look at your options. Ask anyone else in this market to put their total next to their weekly price the way we do.

Section two

Verification and getting approved

Does the initial enquiry check my credit?

No. The initial enquiry itself does not run a credit check. We use the business and budget information you provide for an indicative routing result. Any later verification requirements are explained before you proceed.

What do you actually verify?

We verify a current ABN and genuine business activity, that the car is for your work, and that the payment fits the affordability evidence requested during assessment. The initial enquiry itself does not run a credit check; any further requirements are explained before you proceed.

What counts as proof the car is for my work?

It looks different for different work. NDIS worker screening and service agreements for support workers. Invoices, client contracts or booking records for mobile services and consultants. GST registration or business insurance for established operators. If you genuinely work with your car, you'll have something on that list, and we'll help you figure out which one during your application.

I'm not running a business. Can I still apply?

Not for this product. It's built for cars that genuinely and mainly earn their keep, and we verify that on every application. An ABN by itself isn't business use, so please don't register one just to apply, it won't get you through our checks and it wouldn't be right for you anyway. If your situation changes and your car becomes your livelihood, we'd love to hear from you.

What documents will I need?

The 60 second check needs no documents at all. If you go ahead, we'll ask for your licence, your ABN details, something that shows the car is for your work, like worker screening, service agreements or invoices, and 90 days of bank statements. That's it, and it's all so we can make sure the payment truly fits.

How fast can I be earning in it?

The eligibility check takes 60 seconds with an answer on your screen straight away. Once we have your documents, verification usually comes through within a day. Most drivers pick up their car within the week and are back with their clients straight away.

Can I apply after bankruptcy?

Bankruptcy, past or current, does not automatically decide the initial enquiry. That enquiry itself does not run a credit check; we look at the business and budget information you provide and may need further verification before deciding whether any product is suitable.

Real checks, done with respect.See where you stand in 60 seconds, no credit impact.

Section three

The vehicle and the agreement

Can I choose my car?

You tell us the work it needs to do and your budget, and we match you from our available cars. It's not a blank cheque dealership browse, but you always see the exact car and the exact costs before you commit to anything. If it's not right for the job, say no and we'll keep looking.

Can I use the car personally too?

The car needs to be mainly for your work, that's what the product is built and verified around. Normal life around the edges is expected: driving home after a shift, the odd weekend trip, groceries on the way back from a job. Incidental personal use like that is completely normal. What it can't be is the other way around, a personal car with occasional work on the side.

Is there a km allowance?

Yes, and we'd rather set it honestly than surprise you later. Working cars do real kilometres, so tell us up front what your week looks like, back to back client visits, a run of appointments across South East Queensland, and we'll set the allowance and price around your actual work. You'll see the allowance and the excess rate in writing before you sign, so there's no guessing.

Who handles servicing and maintenance?

Scheduled servicing is included in your weekly payment for the whole term, not just the first year, and we organise it, so the car stays reliable and the logbook stays stamped. Your side is the everyday care: keep it clean, keep tyres inflated, and tell us early if something feels wrong. Fair wear and tear from honest work is expected, damage from neglect or misuse is yours.

Can I upgrade or return the car?

Yes to both. If the work changes and you need a bigger boot or more seats, talk to us about moving to a different agreement. And if you need out entirely, you can return the car and end the agreement early, with exit costs capped, never a demand for the full remaining term.

What if the car breaks down?

Call the 24/7 roadside assistance that's included with every car and we'll get you moving. Every car comes serviced, safety checked and with warranty cover, so mechanical faults are on us to fix, not on you to fund. We know a car off the road is income off the table, so we treat breakdowns with urgency.

What happens at the end of the term?

The end-of-term outcome depends on the product you are eligible for. If your approved plan includes an ownership pathway, its conditions and any final payment will be set out in your written agreement before you sign. Read that section carefully and ask us about anything that is unclear.

Section four

When things go wrong

What happens if I have a bad week and miss a payment?

Talk to us as soon as you know, even before the payment is due, and we'll work out a plan together. Quiet weeks happen in every trade. Your first late fee is $0, we have a published hardship policy, and a missed payment gets a phone call from a person, not a car that won't start the next morning. Ignoring it is the only thing that makes it worse.

What if I hit real financial hardship?

Contact us early. We will review the circumstances with you and explain the support options available under your agreement and our current hardship process.

How do I complain, and what if we can't agree?

Email admin@whynotownit.com.au and we'll respond quickly, with a real person owning the problem until it's fixed. If you're not happy with our answer, you can escalate to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA), a free and independent external body. Our AFCA membership details are being finalised and will be published on this site, because you should be able to check up on us.

Can I exit the agreement early?

Early-exit options and costs depend on the approved product. They will be set out in your written agreement before signing.
